Category: Geeks r Us
Due to linux interest generated by another post on this board, I've created the helpdesk topic that way we didn't have to continue tacking on to that older thread. Post your questions, curiosities, and other linux related stuff here, and those of us who can help will. Let's linux! :)
Is it possible to run Windows programs with Wine under Ubuntu? When I launch a program with wine, I get an interface which doesn't talk.
It is possible to run programs if they are self voicing but that is it. There is currently no screen reader that I know that will work in Wine. You could run a Windows virtual machine using Virtual Box or Qemu. I wouldn't recommend VMWare at this point because it was causing kernel panics a month or so ago when I tried it.
Well, he said waht I was going to say, so taht's covered. Only thing I'll ad is this. Check out vmware if the other options don't work, since I thought I'd heard they fixe that issue. Let us know how far you get.
I'm using Qemu (or trying to) with a Windows 10 ISO. It says it's running but the keyboard doesn't respond. I don't know if I'm required to type in a registration key before I'm allowed to activate narrator. Maybe I need a Windows installer but I don't have one.
Does anyone have experience using Rythmbox? I'm trying to stream music from libre.fm but I'm experiencing several problems with it.
I haven't done much with rhythmbox, but I'll mess with it this weekend and see if I can be of any help. Sorry I've been so quiet. Chemo decided to play ugly this week. Of course tonight I'm wide awake and sleep is nowhere to be found.
This is gonna sound insensitive but I read chemo, thought VM and heard qemu. It sucks that you're dealing with that. Get back to me whenever you feel up to it. I have a whole new world of software to explore in the meantime.
I'll do my best to have ya an answer tomorrow.
I've got rhythum box installed, but haven't had a real chance to fool with it. I'll try later on today. I got up feeling a little rough this morning, but i'll see what I can do.
